We are introducing the distinguished guest of this year’s 2nd edition of International Festival Bled golden microphone, president of international jury consisting of experts from Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Malta, Moldova and Slovenia. It is an extremely eminent academic musician, professor, clarinetist, conductor and composer who comes from Vienna, the capital of our neighboring country Austria.


Prof. Mag. KURT SCHMID, from Vienna, Austria, is a renowned academic musician, clarinetist, conductor and composer who comes from a musical family and graduated from the Vienna Academy of Music. As a clarinetist he participated in many ensembles such as “Viennese Concert Schrammel Quartet” and chamber ensemble “Kollegium Viennese“. Soon he began to compose, his oeuvre comprises more than 560 works.

He started pedagogical work in 1974 at the Vienna Music Seminar and in 1980 at the Academy of Music in Vienna. He often organized master classes for talented students from around the world, especially in Japan and Korea. He is very active in Ukraine, especially in the city of Lugansk, where since 2003 he is professor at the State Pedagogical Academy. In his career he has been artistic director and conductor of numerous orchestras and in 1998 he founded “Strauss-Gala-Orchestra Vienna” which was often on tour in Japan and the had concerts in Austria and Spain as well.

In 2002 he became principal conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra in Lugansk.

He was awarded with the Silver Medal of Honor from Vienna, capital of Austria and in 2010 he received the Cross of Honor in the field of Arts and Sciences, the highest official recognition for achievements in the field of arts in Austria.
